Had an awful recent experience here. Went with a group of friends one which had a food allergy to shell fish. We order the vegetable tempura as an appetizer and there was shrimp on the plate. When we called the waitress back and explained that our friend has a food allergy to shell fish and in addition to not knowing why the shrimp was on the plate to begin with we asked her to take it back. Her reaction was ignorant telling us that to consider the shrimp a little extra and they wouldn't charge us and that she would NOT take it back because the shrimp was not touching the vegetables since there was a layer of tempura the covered each food item. We explained to her that we were not willing to take that risk with our friends life and she insisted that we could eat it because everything was dipped in tempura so the shrimp was not touching the other vegetables. Even though the shrimp was on the top and obviously touching everything. We knew we were not getting any where with her so we ignored her and the plate all together. We continued on with our order of sushi which my food allergy friend ordered the rainbow sushi because it has no shell fish. The roll came back and in trust she ate one piece and immediately began having a reaction so when she checked it we saw it had crab in it. At that point we realized the sushi chef didn't even make the roll correctly!!! We called for the owner and he told us that she could eat it because it was imitation crab. When you have a food allergy you do extensive research and they knew that even imitation crab has actual crab juice for flavoring. The owner didn't even acknowledge to begin with that it was made wrong. They made us the correct order and we ate but there was no concern at all with the severity that mistakes like this can cause. We will never dine here again and if you have a food allergy I would stay far far away from this place as they do not take it seriously. **they didn't even offer to comp the sushi roll or anything. As you can imagine we did not leave a tip!

Everyone at the beach is extremely nice. The hostess and waiter were extremely welcoming, friendly, and polite. However, I was a little confused and because we were the only two at the sushi bar I felt neglected at times. The food, I was not too clear on, I ended up ordering something and getting one item, and I was just so confused, I did receive 8 pieces of sushi which is more than I usually receive when I get sushi, but it was a little pricier than I expected it to be, and I've had my fair share of sushi experiences. I would consider going back.

If you like having your meal cooked in front of you, this is the place. The chef was very entertaining and the food was very good and cook to order. There was plenty to eat and you did not leave hungry. I would go here again the next time I am in the Atlantic Beach area.

I order take-out from here usually once a week. I rarely eat here, although I have a couple times. I'm not a big fan of dining in Japanese/Hibachi grill places in general. The sushi here is pretty good, if you order on the right day. I find that when I get sushi on Tuesday, it's usually good and fresh. I think that's when they get their deliveries (try to steer clear of Sunday and Monday). The sushi is fairly priced (the nigiri is expensive but it's that way everywhere). The clear soup here is really good and more flavorful than most, and they give you a good portion. I also like the fried rice - it's pretty basic as far as fried rice goes, although it looks like they've just started adding some other veggies in (peas and corn). The hibachi is OK... I find the chicken to be a little overcooked and flavorless, so I usually just order the grilled veggies. Some high notes - the staff is super friendly and they have actually never made a mistake on one of our orders.

Service and presentation is incredible. Food is as good as any Japanese grill. Check it out, there is no wait most of the time!

Terrible service and then we called the manager over who could care less about the fact that we never got a drink refill, or our salads or a missing roll. Even after we said something to the manager acted like she didn't care and did not fix any of the problems. instead she brought us the checks and told us if we wanted a discount we had to pay on the same check !! WHAT?! I will never come back which is a shame because the food is probably decent..... Still waiting on refills!

Decent sushi quality and large servings, I use to dine here all the time when I lived at Jax Beach. It's far from fine dining sushi. I travel all over the world and no one makes shrimp remoulade sauce good like they do in Jacksonville. I love the welcoming staff here and I allways run into a friend dining here.

Hibachi is good. Sushi is pretty good but not awesome. The owners seem nice.

Pros: The ginger salad tastes gingery and doesn't have mayo in it The people in our party that got cooked food seemed happy enough with it. Not excited, but not disgusted Cons: The tuna in the spicy tuna was disgustingly chewy The salmon was not sushi-grade The food for our party came out over a twenty minute period

I usually steer clear of sushi places that also have hibachi grills. I do not like to smell that when eating sushi. Ichiban is the exception! There is a dining area for people who only want sushi on the other side of the restaurant. Also, finding a sushi place in Jacksonville with a large selection of custom rolls is rare. I have visited a lot of sushi places and I tend to see the same thing on menu after menu. The food is great and fairly priced, the atmosphere is above average (compared to most sushi places), and the staff is friendly! The tuna crunch roll is out of this world!

DON'T BE DETOURED BY THE CHEAPY STRIP MALL EXTERIOR!!!! We are visiting from San Francisco and wanted a good meal and good service. I checked out YELP (which isn't as popular or as used as it is in Bay Area!) and a few other online restaurant reviews. And nothing seemed to "pop" out or grab out desire. So I decided that one of those fun Japonese places where they cook in front of you was just the ticket. When we pulled up to ICHIBAN on N.3rd Street in Jacksonville Beach everyone said 'ohhh no, it looks cheap and stip mally'. No one wanted to go in....but I had a feeling about this place. After some insistance, we strolled in. As soon as we walked in the doors, we were relieved. VERY RELIEVED! The interior is spacious, open and bustling. We were greeted by a very nice lady and were seated immediately. The placewas pretty dead, but was way nicer than we thought from the outside. I could totally see how people would not go in after seeing it from the outside. Our waiter "Tim" was helpful if not a little slow... but efficient all the same. We asked for his assistance in choosing a shot drink. We ended up getting some kind of "crash" or "car bomb" or something like that where you have a beer and drop in a shot of Jagermeister and it foams...LET THE FUN BEGIN! My Husband and I were there with my 24 year old Daughter and her Boyfriend, so we were tryin to do hip things like drinking a silly drink (hey we probably would have done beer bongs if they had em!) In a nutshell...$182 total including the tip for a DELICIOUS, more than enough food dinner for 4, appetizers, beers, shots and good fun. We all had New York Strips with Shrimp or Scallops or Chicken. There was more food than we could eat, we ended up with 'doggie bags'. Good service, nice atmosphere, beautiful cuts of meat, clean, and a pretty good value. $182 sounds like a lot. But when you consider $30 was for the tip and probably $60 or more for the booze, it was REAT!!!! It's what it is....not a fine steakhouse, but not waffle house. One thing we noticed was how beautiful the cuts of New York were. Since they cook it in front of you, you get to see everything first. We are happy we chose ICHIBAN!

Overall this is a great hibachi and sushi place. Visited on a Sunday night, my only complaint is there was only 1 habachi chef working so we had to wait around an hour. The staff gave us a free plate of edamame for our wait. The food is great. If you want some great hibachi cookin this is a great choice. Just try not to go during non-peak hours.

Took a big group, there was already a big group there and our waitress did tell us there was only one cook. Service was slow and took an hour to get just our soup. We we ask management about possibly getting a discount, they blew us off. So we paid for drinks and left, Won't ever be back.

I went to this place during lunch hours. Not many were there, I should have stepped out !!! But, I ordered for a fried rice. Didn't think it would be that bad.. But I was wrong. It was hard and dry. So horrible. The server wasn't even available when I wanted to tell her, so I waited. After 10mins she came and I told her the rice is hard. She touched it and said yes and charged me for it. That's it! No sorry , no replacement .. just swiped my card! Really? If negative stars were available, I would have given that :|
